Hurting with Those Who Hurt: Hope and Healing
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
When was the last time you stepped out of your own comfort zone to feel the real pain of someone else? It’s hard to be vulnerable in that way! But one of the most powerful ways we can impact others for Christ is by being willing to truly hurt with those who are hurting. When we feel the pain of someone’s loss and someone’s suffering, we can not help but be moved and motivated to do whatever it takes to bring them hope and healing. It is called compassion. And with our compassion for others, there is also comfort for others. That same healing power we find in Christ, we can share with others also. It is a compassion that mirrors the heart of Jesus. He would look upon the crowds of people with such a deep compassion, that he was moved to action. So should we. Consider this challenging question: Am I ready to follow the example of Christ and honestly hurt with the hurting. If we are willing to live out the compassion of Christ to others, it will change the way we live, the way we disciple others, the way we share the Gospel, the way we serve, give, pray, and love. It's a call to move beyond our comfort zones and truly engage with those who need the hope and healing of Christ.
