Everyone bears a scar.
Everyone bears a burden.
Everyone bears a hurt.
Everyone bears a loss.
Everyone bears a grief.
Everyone bears a regret.
Everyone has a time when the circumstances we are handed in life seem to crush us.
We ALL carry our baggage like a burden too heavy to bear. But we bear it. Sometimes alone.
In those moments of time, we find ourselves overwhelmed with the emotions of helplessness, hopelessness, fear, anxiousness, guilt, and it seems as if we will never heal.
May I share a simple truth? Everything you are feeling in these moments is real and very normal. It is alright to not be alright! And though we would wish them away, they are strangely A GIFT. In fact, Gods whole intent of human emotion is to awaken our hearts to look toward heaven when our human nature tells us (like Adam and Eve) to hide. We turn our hurt and pain inward instead of upward. You see, God intends them to be an open door for healing. How is that? As a child of God we don’t have to hide in our pain and suffering.
Our Lord was acquainted with pain, suffering, grief and sorrow. (Isaiah 53:3). He was crushed and rejected. He experienced broken relationships, a victim of reputation smears, bullying, and was betrayed by those he thought loved him. He grieved at the death of his father, and wept at the death of his closest of friends. He knew the emotions we experience as orphaned children and abandonment. He knew the life of singleness and loneliness. He knows temptation and confronted it just like you and I. He cried a lot. Just like me! His tears flowed freely and probably not acceptable for a man in his culture. What I believe is that he “normalized” everything we may be feeling right now. So he gets us! He knows us!
Spiritual truth: Our Lord experienced all of these for one purpose. He didn’t just experience the death on a cross for our salvation. He experienced the emotions of life and humanity so we could know and experience hope and healing. for our healing. He is the same Savior who heals our emotions as he is the Savior who saves our soul! He is more than a conqueror over death. He is a survivor over life and paved the way so we too could be a survivor over what life hands us! And, he is waiting to give us everything we need to be survivors as well.
