Family Discipleship Materials

Helping families grow deeper in faith together.

“These words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children…” — Deuteronomy 6:6-7

A decision to follow Jesus is one of the greatest moments in a student’s life. But faith is not meant to be lived only in a moment,  it is meant to become a way of life. At FCC, we believe parents and families play the most important role in helping students grow as disciples of Jesus. The church is here to partner with you, encourage you, and provide resources that help you have meaningful conversations about faith at home.

This page is designed to help you walk alongside your student as they continue growing in their relationship with Christ.

Start Here: What Happens After a Big Faith Decision?

Your student may be experiencing a lot of emotions right now:
* Excitement
* Questions
* A desire to grow
* Uncertainty about what comes next
* A need for encouragement

Remember: discipleship is a journey. Your student does not need a perfect parent. They need a present parent who is willing to seek Jesus alongside them.

Three things you can do this week:

1. Celebrate Their Decision
Ask questions like:
“What did this decision mean to you?”
“What did you feel God showing you?”
“What are you most excited about moving forward?”

Celebrate what God is doing in their life!

2. Create Space for Faith Conversations

Faith conversations don’t always happen during a Bible study.

They happen:
* Driving to school
* Around the dinner table
* During a walk
* Before bed
* In the middle of everyday life

Try asking: “Where did you see God today?”

3. Help Them Build Spiritual Habits

A growing relationship with Jesus is built through daily choices.

Encourage your student to:
📖 Spend time in Scripture
🙏 Pray consistently
⛪ Stay connected to the church family
👥 Build relationships with other believers
❤️ Serve others

Family Discipleship Tools

Bible Reading Together: Start simple.

Suggested books to read together:

Gospel of John
*Discover who Jesus is and why following Him matters.

James
*Learn what faith looks like in everyday life.

Philippians
*Grow in joy, humility, and Christ-centered living.

Family Challenge: Read one chapter together and discuss:

1. What stood out to you?
2. What does this show us about God?
3. What is one way we can live this out?
Prayer Resources

Prayer is not just something we do at church, it is how we stay connected to God. Try praying together using this simple pattern:

Praise:
“God, today we thank You for…”

Ask:
“God, we need Your help with…”

Surrender:
“God, help us trust You with…”

Listen:
“God, show us how You want us to follow You.”
Conversation Starters

Use these around the table, in the car, or anytime together:

Faith Questions
* What is one thing you are learning about God?
* What questions do you have about faith?
* What makes following Jesus difficult sometimes?
* Where do you see God working?

Life Questions
* What is something you’re struggling with right now?
* How can I pray for you?
* How can I encourage you this week?
* What is one thing you want to grow in?

When Your Student Struggles
Following Jesus does not mean life becomes easy. There will be moments of:
* Doubt
* Temptation
* Questions
* Failure
* Frustration

When those moments come, remind them: “God is not finished with you.”

Your role is not to have every answer. Your role is to point them back to Jesus.

A Final Encouragement to Parents

The greatest discipleship tool your student will ever have is not a program, an event, or a resource. It is seeing Jesus lived out through the people closest to them. Your faith matters. Your prayers matter. Your example matters. Thank you for allowing us to walk alongside your family. We are excited to see what God continues to do.
