I am ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Make straight the way of the Lord,”’
John 1:23
Sometimes we get a little scared when we think of sharing about Jesus with others. We think we need to know more or that we aren't qualified to share. That is the enemy trying to dissuade us from sharing Jesus. Today's passage is a great example of sharing Jesus. John the Baptist was called to Prepare the Way for Jesus' coming.
John was another miracle baby in that he was born to two people who were well past the age of child bearing--(That amazing story is shared more in Luke chapter one). We can learn a lot about sharing Jesus from this passage. John says a few simple things about Jesus. First he shares that Jesus is God. He says, "Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.” When he is questioned about who he is, he simply quotes the passage above from Isaiah. But some will say, "I don't know any quotes from the Bible." That is okay. Remember, John had a specific calling and was prepared by the Lord for that calling. That is super important.
God hasn't called us to be John the Baptist. He has called to be who we are. He called us out of darkness so that we can do the things that He has prepared us for. Everyone of us is an messenger of God's love. Even if we don't know many Bible verses, we do know what God has done for us. Like the blind man who received his sight, we can all say, "This is who I used to be. This is who I am now. And the difference is Jesus." So simple!
Remember, we are not called to save anyone. We share. God saves. God is using us to speak life into the lives of those around us. We may be the first person He uses or we may be the 500th person He uses to share His message of love and grace found in Jesus. Sharing our faith doesn't have to be scary or abrasive to others. We just need to make a friend, be a friend, and then, introduce a friend to Jesus. That is who we are--Preparing the Way!
